And Affinity as noted above, as it is capable of loading and using those plug-ins.Īs an aside, don’t be too adverse to spending money on post-processing software, if you can help it at all. Similar tools, like Topaz DeNoise, do a lot of harm to stars, and don’t always produce the best results with background space and structures because they are trained, broadly, on photography, not astrophotography specifically.Īlso, NoiseXTerminator works as a plug-in for Adobe Photoshop (which is an extremely capable tool for astrophotography post-processing in its own right). for great results) it makes sense for them to be used with masking or on background data with stars removed (StarNet 2 or StarXTerminator) and added back into images after processing. Just the good ol’ approach of using any of a host of noise reduction tools. Nothing is really comparable… in that NoiseXTerminator is trained on astrophotography data specifically. * Other than more integration time, of course.Įdited by Borodog, 26 July 2022 - 10:31 AM. Just in general, if you use something for noise reduction that you are really happy* with that does not require PI or PS, please throw it out there. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? neural network based approach should be able to outperform anything else.ĥ) I recall somebody posted on CN a while back that they had written a neural network based noise reduction tool for AP, and the results looked really, really good.
TOPAZ DENOISE ALTERNATIVE HOW TO
So what are the alternatives out there that do not require PI or PS?ġ) Topaz - How do people like this for AP? Most of the examples I've seen posted that use it are not good in my opinion, although maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.Ģ) NoNoise - Tried the free trial and it does not work on my computer for some reason.ģ) RawTherapee - Has some noise reduction capability that is seemingly somewhat like PS's Camera Raw Filter however it isn't obvious how to set the parameters and I've had limited success with it.Ĥ) Standard sorts of median filter etc NR in GIMP, Astra Image, SiriL, etc.

FWIW I would buy standalone NX in a heartbeat if it were available.

Unfortunately there is no standalone version like Starnet that does not require PI or PS, and I have no interest in either at the moment. It seems like the gold standard in noise reduction is Noise Xterminator.
